Fancy Crochet Cowl

It feels like a fancy Monday… so I thought I would share my Fancy Crochet Cowl pattern today for free! This crochet cowl pattern is pretty flexible as far as the finished look depending on the type of yarn and buttons you use, which is why I love it so much. It looks like you have a scarf wrapped several times around your neck (due to the ruffle), when in fact, it’s just a cowl. Also, the pattern itself is pretty forgiving, so it’s great for a person just learning to crochet.

Fancy Crochet Cowl

Supplies Needed:
Crochet Hook N – 10.00 MM
Yarn – size 4 medium
Yarn needle
Buttons (your choice of size, style & how many)
Scissors

Crochet Stitches & Abbreviations:
Chain = ch
Stitch = st
Single Crochet = sc
Double Crochet = dc
Skip = sk
Half Double Crochet = hdc

Notes:
– Every Row 1 (after the initial Row 1) you will need to crochet the last stitch in the top of the chain 2 stitch in order to get the correct number of stitches for each row. This creates the ripple effect on the outer edge of the main body of the cowl. Please reference the picture below.

Last Stitch Place in Top of Chain 2

– All chain 2 stitches count as a stitch for each row’s total stitch count.

Pattern:

Ch 12; dc in 2nd ch from the hook and in each stitch (11 total stitches)
Row 1: Ch 2, turn, dc, 2sc, *dc, dc, 2sc* repeat ** until the end of the row (14 total stitches)
Row 2: Ch2, turn, dc, sk1st, *dc, dc, sk1st* repeat ** until the end of the row (10 total stitches)
Row 3 & 4: Ch2, turn, dc in every stitch (10 total stitches)
Repeat Rows 1-4, making sure to end on row 3 once the desired length is achieved.

Once you have finished the length of your crochet cowl, it’s time for the ruffle that goes around the outer edge of the cowl. Feel free to do as many rows around the cowl as you prefer… the more rows, the more ruffle-y the cowl will be.

Ruffle:
Ch 2, *hdc in back loop, hdc in front loop*, repeat ** until the end of the round, finish off and weave in ends.

My cowl in the picture ended up being a total of 40 rows and I only did one ruffle row around the cowl… just as a reference for you while you are crocheting.

Please feel free to sell any cowls you make from this pattern, but please do not sell my pattern nor use my pictures. I would greatly appreciate a link back to this post, but it’s not a requirement…just appreciated!

I would also love for you to share pictures of your completed cowl or any comments! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I will try to help as much as I can.

Cheers to a Fancy Monday,
