Wanderlust CAL Week 8 & The Bobble Stitch

Wanderlust CAL Week 8 – The Compass vs. The Evergreen Tree

The Compass vs. The Evergreen Tree… what will it be?!  I decided this week we needed to have some options, so what will you pick for this week’s Wanderlust CAL release?  Be sure to let me know in the comments below.  Personally, I am going with The Evergreen Tree!

FYI

If you haven’t joined yet, there is still time!  Hop over to the original post for the details and check out the Wanderlust CAL week 1 – The Happy S’more here. I promise you won’t regret getting in on the fun!  Keep in mind, the Wanderlust CAL can be personalized.  You can decide to do each release and have a large blanket to snuggle under or you can just do some of the releases and make a lap blanket, baby blanket, or pillows!  You can also personalize each release with whatever colors suit your style… really, the possibilities are endless with this CAL.  I will be providing the colors I chose to use on my squares, but again, feel free to get creative and share!

Supplies Needed:

  • Red Heart Yarn– Medium Weight (4)
  • Colors for The Compass
    • Grey Heather, Gold, Dusty Grey, Country Blue
  • Colors for The Evergreen Tree
    • Warm Brown, Green Tone, Coffee
  • Hook Size:  G or H (I opted for H)
  • Yarn Clips
  • Scissors
  • Yarning Needle
  • The Evergreen Tree
  • The Compass

Stitch Options

  • Bobble (I am using the Bobble stitch for the Wanderlust CAL)
  • C2C
  • Mini C2C

Let’s talk about stitch options.  As I’ve noted above and in previous Wanderlust CAL posts, I have opted to use the Bobble stitch for this project.  The bobble stitch is my absolute favorite stitch of all time.  It looks amazing in pretty much any color or fiber, every weight, and it adds just the right amount of squishiness to every stitch.  The other thing I absolutely love about the bobble stitch is that the bobble itself is beautiful, but the back side of the stitch is also pretty.  This allows both sides of your project to be awesome.

How to Bobble:

  1. Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull out of stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops
    • (there will be 2 loops still on the hook)
  2. Yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, yarn over, pull out of stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops
    • (there will be 3 loops still on the hook)
  3. Yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, yarn over, pull out of stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops
    • (there will be 4 loops still on the hook)
  4. Yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, yarn over, pull out of stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops
    • (there will be 5 loops still on the hook)
  5. Yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, yarn over, pull out of stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops
    • (there will be 6 loops still on the hook)
  6. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops on the hook
    • You have now completed your first bobble stitch… way to go!

Here are a couple of notes about the bobble stitch that are very helpful:

  • The first bobble stitch at the beginning of the row will begin with a chain 3, which will count as one of the 6 loops on your hook
  • Each bobble stitch is followed by a single crochet
  • As you are bobbling, keep an eye on your bobble alignment, especially when you are first learning.  All bobble stitches should line up with each other… it is a very symmetrical stitch.

If you are interested in trying out the bobble stitch, head over to Michelle from Sea to Sky Design’s Blog.  She has an adorable project using the bobble stitch and it is FREE!  It is “Thats Amore Crochet Wall Hanging” and she has a great picture tutorial to accompany the pattern.

Wanderlust CAL Week 6

Wanderlust CAL Week 6 – Let There Be Light!

Let’s shine some light on week 6 of the Wanderlust CAL!  There is only one option this week, but its definitely one of my favorites.  This week’s release will be the Camping Lantern.  A long time ago my dad gave me a vintage red lantern (its rusted, chipped and amazing!), which is what inspired this square.  I love the color, and seriously; who goes camping without a lantern?!

Now I have a question for you.  Where is the most amazing place you have ever camped?

The Beachcomber Market Tote

The Beachcomber Market Tote

Good morning my friends!  I am so glad you stopped by to check out The Beachcomber Market Tote.  It is one of my favorite designs I have created so far and I love the colors, size, and the ability to customize it, all while being a very simple pattern.

How The Beachcomber Market Tote was Born

How did I come up with this pattern?  It all started with how much I love spring!  All of the fresh blooms and the opening of the outside farmers markets in our area.  As a family, we absolutely love going to farmers markets.  All of the yummy foods, handmade items, fresh blooms, and let’s not forget the live entertainment… while being outside getting fresh air and exercise.

Now, the one thing I don’t like is always trying to find a bag to take to the farmer’s market.  I usually stuff random purchases throughout the stroller, purse, and my husband’s arms.  To say the least, not ideal.  I want a sturdy bag that is big enough to carry all of the things we purchase, but also one that has holes (not too big) that will allow everything to breath, but not fall out.  I also want it to be comfortable to carry, but cute.  And to top it all off… I would love for it to have multiple uses!  Maybe a farmer’s market tote on Saturdays, a beach tote on Sundays, and maybe a project bag (capable of holding lots of yarn) the rest of the time!  I searched and searched and searched and I never found one that I thought would work for me.  And then I had an idea, and The Beachcomber Market Tote was born!

The Beachcomber Market Tote

So, I’ve decided to share it today with you!  As always, please remember this is a FREE pattern I am sharing with you.  Please do not copy or claim this pattern as your own.  You are welcome to make The Beachcomber Market Tote to sell, but I would appreciate you providing credit to me for the pattern design.

The Beach Comber Market Tote Pattern

This pattern is the best!  It has the look of a more complicated make, but in reality it is a super easy project.  The pattern can also be customized to fit your style and needs.  By this I mean you can adjust the size (length) of the bag, the type of straps, and the yarn color you want to use.  You can even pick the color of macrame cord you want.  And if that doesn’t allow enough of your style to show, you can also add on tassels and/or pom poms for an added twist.

Supplies:
  • Crochet Hook size Q
  • Crochet Hook size J
  • Yarning Needle
  • Macrame Cord (50 Yards) – 3, but I only had about 12 inches left of the cord after I finished the bag. Please note that if you want to make any adjustments or changes, you may need an extra macrame cord.
  • Caron Cakes (I used the color Rainbow Sprinkles) – 1
  • Leather Straps – 1 (2 straps come together)
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Marker
Stitches & Abbreviations Used
  • Magic Circle – mc
  • Single Crochet – sc
  • Double Crochet -dc
  • Slip Stitch – ss
  • Chain – ch
Pattern

*To start, you will hold the macrame cord and yarn together as one string as you are crocheting using the size Q hook.

*You will be working in the round.
